I had the pleasure of creating the environment art for one of the Game Development groups at Full Sail. These assets were my contribution to their project, and this presentation is my own composition to show off those assets. Once again I turned to my friend Christian Baca for some wind VFX, which he did an awesome job creating for me. My artistic inspiration for this work came from the incredible feel-good vibes and atmosphere of Palia, and I wanted to add some break down elements on how I achieved the stylized foliage. using VertexNormalWS with the transferred normals, I can build a material that gives me many options for the canopy gradient.
I use a panning texture to create color patterns in the grass, additionally I run that same texture through the WPO in SimpleGrassWind to make it look like that panning color is moving the grass, like wind.
The flowers are also using straight up normals like the grass.
